Bedste områder på Costa Blanca – hvor skal du købe din drømmebolig?
If you ask my clients which area is the best on Costa Blanca, you will almost always get very different answers. Because the truth is that the best area is the place where you feel at home.
For some, the dream is a villa by a golf course with plenty of space, privacy and views of green fairways. For others, it is an apartment in the middle of town, with cafés, the beach and city life right outside the door. Fortunately, Costa Blanca has it all.
There is no single right answer, only the one that is right for you
It is always a good idea to ask family, friends and other homeowners about their experiences. But I always recommend that you experience the areas for yourself before you decide. The atmosphere, the distance to the beach, everyday life - you cannot feel that through a screen.
That is why I am happy to offer a no-obligation tour of the area, where I show you the differences and help you find out what feels right.
Why is Costa Blanca so popular with Danes?
Costa Blanca is one of the most sought-after areas in Spain, and there are many good reasons for that. The region offers more than 300 days of sunshine a year and a mild, stable climate that many people find particularly gentle on both joints and airways. This is one of the reasons why many Danes choose Costa Blanca as their base, either for longer periods or as a permanent home.
At the same time, the infrastructure works well, with a modern healthcare system, good road connections and easy access to everyday essentials. Property prices are still attractive compared to many other Spanish coastal areas, and with the airport in Alicante, the area is easy to reach all year round.
Many Danes choose the southern part of Costa Blanca because the area combines a stable, sunny climate with good property prices and a relaxed lifestyle. Around Torrevieja in particular, you will find a dry and pleasant microclimate that makes the area attractive all year round. Here you will find a strong international community and a wide range of properties suited to both holiday use and year-round living.
How the areas on Costa Blanca fit together
When you start looking for a property on Costa Blanca, you will quickly come across many different names: Costa Blanca, Costa Blanca South, Orihuela Costa, Villamartín, Punta Prima, Ciudad Quesada, La Mata – and it can feel a little confusing. That is why I will start by briefly explaining how the areas actually fit together.
Costa Blanca is the overall coastal area along the Mediterranean in the province of Alicante. When people talk about Costa Blanca, they often mean the southern part, where the coast is divided into municipalities and towns, which in turn consist of smaller residential areas and urbanisations. This structure makes it easier to find your way around and understand the differences between the individual areas.
A good example is Orihuela Costa. Orihuela Costa is not one town, but a larger coastal area that belongs to the municipality of Orihuela. Within Orihuela Costa you will find popular residential areas such as Villamartín, Playa Flamenca, Punta Prima and La Zenia. So Villamartín is not an independent town, but a residential area in Orihuela Costa – which in turn is located on Costa Blanca South.
The same applies elsewhere. Torrevieja is an actual town, but when people talk about the Torrevieja area, they often include nearby residential areas such as La Mata and Los Balcones. Ciudad Quesada is an independent residential area that belongs to the municipality of Rojales, while Guardamar del Segura is a town with both a centre and surrounding residential areas.
This is why the same place can be described in several ways – depending on whether you are talking about the coastal area, the municipality, the town or the residential area. Once you know this structure, it becomes much easier to understand property listings and find out which area suits you best.
Popular areas on Costa Blanca – where do you fit in best?
Costa Blanca has many different areas, and it is precisely these differences that make the region so attractive. Some areas are perfect for year-round living, others are ideal for a holiday home, and some appeal especially to those looking for peace, views and exclusivity.
Below I have gathered five of the areas that Danish buyers choose most often:
1. The Torrevieja area – city life, beaches and easy everyday living
Popular towns and areas:
Torrevieja · La Mata · Los Balcones
The Torrevieja area is one of the best-known and liveliest areas on Costa Blanca South. Torrevieja itself is a real town with just over 100,000 permanent residents, and many more in high season. There is activity all year round, good beaches, a seafront promenade, shopping centres, hospitals and a wide selection of restaurants and cafés.
The area is about a 45-minute drive from Alicante airport, and many residential areas are 1–3 km from the beach, depending on location. There are several golf courses within a 10–20 minute drive.
The area is especially popular with those who want:
- Life and activity all year round
- A short distance to the beach and town
- Good healthcare facilities
- A large international community
The range of properties is wide, and prices are still attractive, which makes the area suitable for both year-round living and holiday homes.
2. Orihuela Costa – beaches, golf and modern homes
Popular towns and areas:
Punta Prima · Playa Flamenca · La Zenia · Villamartin · Cabo Roig · Las Colinas
Orihuela Costa is a coastal area south of Torrevieja and belongs to the municipality of Orihuela. The area has no single town centre, but consists of several popular residential areas with a total of around 40,000 permanent residents.
Here you live about 45–50 minutes from Alicante airport and often only 1–4 km from the beach, depending on the area. Orihuela Costa is especially known for its many golf courses – several are located right in or close to the residential areas, including Villamartín, Las Ramblas and Campoamor.
What especially characterises Orihuela Costa:
- Close to the beach and the coast
- Some of Costa Blanca's best golf courses
- Modern apartments and villas
- Good shopping and leisure facilities
An obvious choice if you want an easy and comfortable life in the sun – both as a holiday home and a year-round home.
3. Ciudad Quesada & Rojales – peace, year-round living and golf
Popular towns and areas:
Ciudad Quesada · Rojales · Benijófar
Ciudad Quesada is a well-established residential area that belongs to the municipality of Rojales. The area has around 16,000 permanent residents and is especially popular with people who live here all year.
Here you live about 35 minutes from Alicante airport, a 10-minute drive from the beaches in Guardamar and close to La Marquesa Golf, which runs through parts of the area.
The area is known for:
- Quiet and safe surroundings
- Good infrastructure for year-round living
- Golf and green spaces
- A stable international community
Many choose the area because it feels manageable, homely and well-functioning – also when you live here all year round.
4. San Miguel de Salinas – authentic village atmosphere close to the coast
Popular towns and areas:
San Miguel de Salinas
San Miguel de Salinas is a charming and traditional Spanish town located a little inland from the coast on southern Costa Blanca. The town has around 7,000–8,000 permanent residents and is growing as more people discover the area.
Despite the development and the many new modern homes, San Miguel de Salinas has kept its authentic village atmosphere with narrow streets, a local market and a calm everyday life. Here you will find several cosy restaurants and a relaxed atmosphere that sets it apart from the more touristy coastal areas.
What makes the area especially attractive:
- Genuine Spanish village atmosphere
- A calm and relaxed everyday life
- Local market and cosy restaurants
- Close to the beaches and facilities on the coast
In short, it is an area for those who want genuine Spanish charm, but still want to be close to the beaches and facilities on the coast.
5. Pilar de la Horadada – beaches, nature and Spanish atmosphere
Popular towns and areas:
Pilar de la Horadada · Torre de la Horadada · Mil Palmeras
Pilar de la Horadada is the southernmost municipality on the Costa Blanca coast, close to the border with Murcia (Costa Cálida). The town has around 23,000 permanent residents and is about a 45-minute drive from Alicante airport.
Here you have access to some of the area's lovely sandy beaches, including Mil Palmeras and Torre de la Horadada, as well as a pleasant seafront promenade that brings life to the coast. The area is mostly flat and well suited to both cycling and walking, and there are several golf courses within a 10–15 minute drive.
What makes the area especially attractive:
- Beautiful sandy beaches
- Pleasant promenade and active coastal life
- Flat landscape, ideal for cycling and walking
- Genuine Spanish town life all year round
- Family-friendly and quiet surroundings
Pilar de la Horadada is ideal if you want beaches, local town life and a more authentic Spanish atmosphere in quiet surroundings.
Which area on Costa Blanca is right for you?
As you can see, there are many good areas on Costa Blanca, and they can be very different. Some are perfect for year-round living, others are best suited as a holiday home, and some especially attract those who dream of peace, views and exclusivity. What matters most is not which area is the most popular, but which area suits your life, your needs and your dreams.
My best advice is therefore always: take your time. Feel the atmosphere. Experience the areas with your own eyes. It is only when you are standing there that you can truly feel what is right. Many people are surprised by which area they end up falling for – and that is completely natural.
I live here myself and know the areas from the inside. That is why I am happy to help you sort through the options, ask the right questions and guide you safely through the process – whether you are early in your considerations or ready for the next step.
